Inland Ports

The Lyndhurst and Altona Inland Ports are the next stage of the Salta/Westgate Ports integrated freight logistics, container handling, storage and distribution business. The proposed inland ports are strategically located alongside rail infrastructure with Lyndhurst servicing the eastern suburbs and Altona the western suburbs of Melbourne. The planned inland ports will be used as a receiving, consolidation and distribution point for containers transported by rail to and from the Port of Melbourne.

The developments are being planned in response to the State Governments concern regarding traffic congestion along main arterial roads due to truck movement. The facilities use of rail instead of roads will significantly reduce traffic congestion and green-house gas emissions.

These considerable sites will also feature associated industrial development that will support the key policy directions of Melbourne 2030. The Lyndhurst and Altona project will create hundreds of new jobs and support population growth in these regions of Melbourne.
